March to May is the dry season, and temperatures start to drop, but the weather is still great for hiking and outdoor activities. If you're willing to trade some crowds for lower prices, the shoulder season is a good time to visit.
 

June to August is winter in Queensland, and while it can be cold, it's also the best time to see whales on their migration along the coast. How to hire a campervan, motorhome or caravan in Queensland?

Once you have chosen a van, select your dates and send a booking request to the owner and discuss your trip. Once the owner approves your booking you can make a secure payment via our platform.

When the first day of the booking arrives you'll meet with the owner to pick-up the van (some owners will also drop-off to your holiday location). They'll guide you through using the van and submit a pre-condition report to our platform.  On return, they submit a post-hire condition report as part of the handover.

How much does it cost to rent a campervan, motorhome or caravan in Queensland?

Prices for motorhomes and campervans in Queensland typically range from $60 to $300 per day. Prices are set by the owner and tend to vary depending on how far in advance you book, the time of year, the type of van you choose and its features (beds, kitchen, amenities, etc.). 

Can you sleep in a caravan on the side of the road in QLD?

It is generally considered illegal to sleep in a caravan on the side of the road in Queensland, unless it is a designated camping area or rest stop. You may be able to park your van on the side of a residential street, if it is safe to do so, but it varies from council to council. In most cases, even if you can park your caravan, you cannot be actively using or sleeping in the van. It’s best to research each region you plan to visit to help you avoid penalties. 

How long can you stay in a caravan park in QLD?

Each commercial caravan park in QLD will have their own rules about how long you can stay. Most will generally allow for longer stays, up to 6 weeks. However, it’s best to check before your arrival if you’re planning on staying for more than a week or so. In QLD, short-term permanent tenancies can be extended once for up to 42 days, under the Residential Tenancy Authority QLD. There are free camp and caravan sites in Queensland, however, the conditions of stay can vary from council to council. 

What’s included in the van rental?

All the vans on our site come with comprehensive damage cover and 24/7 roadside assistance. Some owners will provide linen as part of the booking, others will charge an extra fee. And some owners will not provide linen at all. Check the details on the van you're interested in.

How old do I have to be to hire a van in Queensland?

Licensed drivers must be between 21 and 85 years of age and hold a full and valid licence that is not subject to any restrictions or conditions. Probationary licence holders and learner drivers are not accepted.

What’s required to hire or drive a van in Queensland?

To hire a motorhome or campervan in Queensland, a full and valid driver's licence is required. According to the Government of Queensland, if you're visiting the state, “you can drive if you have a valid interstate or overseas licence”, subject to the following conditions:

  • drive only the class of motor vehicle authorised on that licence

  • comply with your licence conditions (if any)

  • show your licence to a police officer when asked to do so.
