We found Peter easy to deal with and on time for drop off and pickup. Whilst Ol Faithful is showing her age, she ran faultlessly and was a comfortable home away from home. There are a couple of issues that could be fixed to make travelling even more enjoyable but in the whole we found good value in hiring a Landcruiser Troop Camper for our trip. Thanks Peter. We had a good road trip, but were very disappointed with 'Ol Faithful and Peter's communication. 1. The worst thing was that the spare tire had already been used, so there was an odd tire on the vehicle - it being much thinner, and it had low pressure. The damaged original tire was on as the spare but it had a nail in. Fortunately we never needed it but I would have thought this was illegal and am not impressed that Camplify, who say they personally verify all owners, would list someone who would do this. ON RETURN I POINTED THIS OUT TO PETER AND HE HAD NOTHING AT ALL TO SAY ABOUT IT. 2. The air conditioning only worked for the first couple of hours of the day - it was then useless so we had to drive with open windows which probably meant the inside got even dustier. 3. We could never get the radio to work which meant we rarely had music which was a shame. Using Bluetooth via our mobile, used up phone battery. This was a problem for us as over we were in peak season and struggled to get campsite slots sometimes, If we did often stayed on unpowered sites. 4. The engine needed a litre of oil (on day two), which seemed strange. Why hadn't it been checked and filled before we took it!? 5. We were not confident with the cooking equipment or water tanks situation. At the pick up meeting Peter himself struggled with opening the lock on the water which did not inspire us to try it. 6. The wing mirrors didn't stay in position which hindered reversing etc. 7. On pick up Peter DID NOT confirm fire safety gear, first aid kit, jack etc. were working - or even where they were. Maybe he expected us to just root around and see what we could find. His basic message was any problems - "call me or RAC". 8. Peter DEFINITELY did not talk to us about his expectations of external or internal cleanliness. 9. The cupboards were crammed full of things we didn't want or need (two packets of spaghetti, several of olive oil!!, too many plates and dishes), leaving little room for anything else so we existed for two weeks in a bit of a state of chaos, nowhere to store anything! Despite the Landcruiser having an excellent engine and no problems in that area, we were disappointed at how uncomfortable 'Ol Faithful was. We were perhaps naïve, and realised afterwards that the listing on Camplify website didn't show any internal photos. It was REALLY scruffy inside. Peter was fine re. communicating about time and place for pick up and drop off, but was not good re. his communication in any other way! If you are contemplating hiring this vehicle I would recommend you carefully look at photos as although it is shown parked up off road, he is very clear he doesn't want you to do this. (We drove on an unsealed road from Norseman to Hyden and he complained bitterly about the dirtiness on drop off!). It was clear we were from overseas and not used to driving in Australia, the bush, 4WD etc., and I think some of our frustrations could have been lessened if Peter had taken this into account and not assumed a knowledge we didn't have.
