Hiring rules

• Arcturus is a Toyota HiAce Commuter campervan with a number of custom features and systems. I continuously maintain and improve the van to ensure it remains reliable and comfortable for travel.
• The following hiring rules are based on practical experience operating the van and are designed to ensure it is used and cared for correctly. Please read them carefully before booking, as they form part of the hire conditions and help ensure a smooth and fair experience for everyone.
• Private vehicle — This campervan is a privately owned vehicle rather than part of a fleet, so it is important that it is treated with care and attention to detail throughout the trip.
• Driver verification & pickup attendance — As this is a privately owned vehicle rather, I prefer to meet all guests who will be travelling in the van at the time of pickup.
• Anyone who will be driving must be present at pickup and must have their driver’s licence available so it can be verified through the Camplify app. If there is an urgent situation and a driver cannot attend pickup, please contact me in advance.
• For international licences, please bring your passport and international driver’s permit (if required) to pickup. Only drivers approved through the Camplify booking are permitted to drive the vehicle.
• Pets — $30.00 pet fee. Please let me know in advance if you intend to bring a pet. Small, toilet–trained dogs that do not shed are generally acceptable, subject to approval.
• If travelling with a pet, please bring clean pet towels to protect the van’s seats. Pets must remain on the towels when sitting on the seats.
• Pets must also be properly restrained while the vehicle is moving, in accordance with Australian road and traffic laws. Any pet–related damage, hair, odour or additional cleaning required may incur additional cleaning or repair charges.
• Pick–up time — Between 11:00 and 17:00, arranged case–by–case. Pickups after dark are not permitted as daylight is required to inspect the van and complete the handover.
• Late pickups (more than 1 hour after the agreed time) incur a $50.00 fee. After–dark arrival may result in a $150.00 fee or postponement of the pick–up to the following day.
• Drop–off time — Between 11:00 and 15:00, arranged case–by–case.
• Returns after 16:00 will incur the cost of one additional hire day. If the delay prevents preparation for the next booking, a late fee of $100.00 may apply.
• Kilometre allowance — 200 km per booking day. This allowance is cumulative. For example, a five–day booking includes 1000 km in total. Additional kilometres can be arranged if required.
• Additional km fee — $0.50 per km once the included allowance has been exceeded.
• Road conditions — No off–road, gravel, sand, beach, fire–trail, or unsealed road driving.
• If evidence of off–road use is found, any costs required to restore the vehicle to its original condition may be charged to the hirer, including lost bookings.
• Care of the vehicle — Please drive with mechanical sympathy. This is a heavy campervan, not a sports car. Do not brake and accelerate aggressively. Report any warning lights or unusual behaviour immediately.
• Drive gently around corners, bends and speed humps. Before driving, ensure that all items inside the van are stowed securely and the roof vent is closed.
• Do not attempt to repair anything yourself.
• Storage before driving — Before driving, please ensure that all loose items are secured, cupboard doors are closed, and equipment is properly stowed to prevent damage while the vehicle is moving.
• Electrical & water systems — The batteries, charger, solar system, wiring, water tank, pump and associated plumbing and electrical components are not user–serviceable.
• Please do not force switches, taps, outlets or fittings. The area containing the battery and electrical components is strictly off limits, except the inverter.
• Shoes — Please remove shoes before entering the living area of the van. This helps protect the flooring, upholstery and bedding and keeps the interior clean throughout the trip.
• Chemical toilet (optional extra) — the toilet must be used OUTSIDE the van with the sole exception being number ones for women at night time or in heavy rain. Under no circumstances can number twos be done in the van EVER. UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN for obvious hygiene reasons. A privacy tent is provided along with the toilet for outdoor use.
• Food & spills — Please take care when eating or drinking inside the van. Avoid strongly coloured or oily foods on the benches, bed or upholstery. Any spills should be cleaned immediately to prevent staining.
• Return expectations — Please return the van in the same condition it was received, with a full fuel tank and a similar level of cleanliness as shown in the pre–hire photos.
• Consumables should be replaced if used. If the van requires additional cleaning, deodorising, stain removal or restoration beyond normal turnover preparation, a cleaning fee of up to $300.00 may apply.
• Tolls & fines — Tolls are automatically charged to the van’s E–Tag and will be claimed post–hire. Any fines, penalties or tickets incurred during the booking will be passed on to the hirer.
• Smoking — Strictly no smoking or vaping inside the van. Please keep all smoking at least 5 metres away from the vehicle and ensure no ash or smoke enters the van. Evidence of either inside the vehicle will result in a cleaning fee.
• Children — This campervan is not set up for transporting children and therefore bookings including children cannot be accommodated.
• Communication — If anything breaks, stops working or seems unusual during your trip, please message me straight away so it can be addressed quickly. Early communication helps prevent bigger issues.
• Thank you for treating the van with care. It helps ensure the vehicle remains in excellent condition for future guests 🙏

  I had a great experience with Arcturus! Paul, the owner, is extremely attentive, and that was a big factor in making the experience good, right from the booking process. I think it's difficult to find another owner who is as helpful as him. Furthermore, Paul is extremely careful about the details and improvements at Arcturus, which is reflected in the excellent state of preservation, utensils, bedding, and towels provided. The bed is also very comfortable!!
