The van we originally hired (Starship Enterprise) was switched out three weeks prior to us renting it, and we ended up with Starship Enterprise 2. Unfortunately, this van came with numerous problems. The fridge and solar-powered battery didnt work, and we spent our second day of hire at an auto-electric repair shop and with a refrigerator repair technician. Little did we know that would be the least of our problems. From the second day of our hire, the vehicle started intermittently. On our fifth day, it refused to start, even with a jump start. It eventually started an hour later after multiple attempts. We spent a full day at the mechanic trying to get it repaired, but the car was starting at that time, and they said they couldnt help us. Camplifys roadside assist helped us with every breakdown, trying to organize a tow and offering alternative accommodation and transport. But theres a catch with their assistanceits only available if services are. We were traveling between 11 April 2025 and 24 April 2025 (school holidays and Easter weekend) from Perth to Exmouth and back through fairly small towns. There was simply no accommodation or hire vehicles available on Camplify or from major car rental companies. Many tow companies couldnt accommodate anything but a tow, and one refused to tow us at all because there were no overflow campsites available to park the van over the long weekend. They would only tow us if we had flights out of Exmouth. The car would eventually start after one to three hours of trying the ignition, but this meant we couldnt stick to our plans. We often had to leave the vehicle running while we shopped or visited a viewpoint, fearing it wouldnt start again. It was an incredibly frustrating experience and caused us to miss two full days of divingsomething Camplify does not cover. Deon was supportive and tried to be as helpful as possible, but theres only so much one can do from afar. We eventually gave up on the car 50 km from Perth when it wouldnt start after filling up with gas. So far, all weve received from Camplify is A$125 for some Ubers we had to take and for one powered site at a roadhouse (since our wild campsite couldnt be used due to the cars unreliability). At the moment, we havent had any follow-up from Camplify, other than the A$125, and our last two emails have gone unanswered. Weve requested three days compensation, as we feel this is fair and would at least cover the days spent repairing the car, as well as the hours wasted waiting for it to start. It would also help cover the missed diving trips, for which were now out of pocket. Camplify claims we chose to continue with the vehicle, but we had no choice other than taking flights back to Perthwhere they dont cover excess baggage. Since we were camping for two weeks, we had many kilograms of luggage and hadnt planned on needing flights. This would also have meant ending the vacation early and losing money on multiple prepaid day trips. Had the van started reliably, we would have been fine with just a fridge and battery repair. But expecting renters to spend two full days of their vacation at repair shopsand miss tours and plans while waiting for a car to startisnt fair. An owner can swap a vehicle at the last minute, so Camplifys review system is flawed and not a reliable way to pick a van. Aside from this major issue, the van had everything we needed: camping chairs, a shower, a kettle, a microwave, a fridge, plates, bowls, cups, wine glasses, pans, two outside gas cookers, one inside gas cooker, a sink, linen, and pillows, etc. Deon included tea, coffee, honey, 20L of water, and some toilet paper. There was storage space above the front seats for luggage and blue storage containers above the bed for quick-access items.

Deon was great to hire from. The van ran seamlessly, it was so nice having a van we could stand up in. Deon was really quick to respond and the van came with everything we needed, he even had a book about free campsites in WA that came in handy. Had a great trip and would hire again!

We had a great time with 3 friends. The spare bed is ideal for a small person or child. Very fun to sit in front with 3 of us while driving. The van drives very smoothly and has anything you need for a roadtrip downunder.
