The rise of van life in Australia

Camplify

After nearly two years of COVID restrictions looming over our holidays, the summer of 2021 offers a partial return to normality (read: a return to road trips for us!). Combine that with the unprecedented buzz around Camplify's Public Listing, a resurgence of the great Australian road trip in the forefront of everyone's minds and the remaining international restrictions, this summer is expected to be the busiest season yet at Camplify.

Australian holidaymakers are still keen on travelling at home

It's time to hit the road

For over a year now - with Covid-19 clipping our wings - Aussies have been making the most of exploring Australia.

According to research, the desire to travel locally is set to continue.

  • Almost all (93%) of Aussies agree that travel in Australia is exciting

  • 78% say they prefer to travel in Australia even after international borders open.*

In addition to this, 71% of Aussies are planning to go on a camping or caravanning adventure within the next 6 months and 73% plan to go on a holiday for more than four nights. In fact, 62% of holidaymakers in Australia say they are more likely to take a caravanning or camping trip than any other kind of travel.*

Van-life: the future of travel

The future is now

Even before Covid-19, which saw more Aussies hitting the road at home, the van-life trend had already begun. Childhood nostalgia, staycations and the boho # VanLife movement (with over 10 million Instagram photos) are fuelling a new golden era for homes-on-wheels. Today, # Vanlife is a lifestyle and a social trend: the freedom of life on the road and exploring beautiful places is inspiring a whole new generation of van-lifers. and the stats prove it:

  • The average Australian RV owner is now aged 33years.**

  • The trend is transferring to rentals, with over half of Aussies aged in their 20s and 30s now considering hiring a recreational vehicle in the future.**

More than 70,000 people booked a van or trip on Camplify in the past 12 months (to end-June 2021).***

We’re seeing more people ‘Try-before-they-buy’

Test-runs are popular

Everyone's road-trip needs are different. Hiring a van offers would-be travellers the chance to try before they buy.

  • Based on research, 74% of prospective van buyers are keen to hire before they buy and Camplify is witnessing huge interest and growth across its key markets.**

Camplify is bringing people together

Camplify is on a mission to become the world’s largest and most trusted caravan & motorhome sharing community, making ‘van life’ accessible to all.

During the past year (end end-June 2021), Camplify saw strong growth and a continued scaling of its local and international business (Australia, the UK, New Zealand and Spain). Camplify welcomed over 51,000 new customers in FY21 and more than 70,000 people booked a van on Camplify. Since Camplify’s launch, we have helped our travellers enjoy 1.5 million nights of # vanlife under the stars.***

How our Camplify Owners are benefiting

Our community of owners has never been stronger

Our community of van owners are earning an income from sharing their van on Camplify.

To date, Camplify has paid its registered van owners more than $35 million in income, helping them to save for holidays, pay off loans or even start their own business. Van owners can earn up to $10,000 (and some earn up to $30,000) a year. Newly listed van owners earn an average of $710 from their first booking.
