Explore Exmouth with Emma & Scott from Exmouth Camper Hire

Located on the stunning Ningaloo coast, Western Australia’s answer to the Great Barrier Reef, Exmouth is one of the most stunningly picturesque places in the country, and for a minute, you’ll forget exactly which country you are in.

Located 1200km’s North of Perth, it’s not just Exmouth you’ll want to explore. The entire World Heritage Listed Ningaloo Coast boasts endless exploration. From coral reefs to pure white beaches, from Dolphins to the majestic Whale Sharks, you’ll never be short of things to see.

The 300km stretch of coral known as the Ningaloo Reef gives the East Coasts Great Barrier Reef a real run for its money with one major difference: You won’t need a boat to reach it. With many sections of the reef so close to shore you can swim your way to an underwater adventure.

Within this 300kms of Coastline, lies Cape Range National Park with an offering of over 100 Campsites scattered Parallel to the Ningaloo Reef. The main road into CRNP is sealed from Exmouth all the way down to Yardie Creek, so all campgrounds and day-use activities are accessible with a 2WD Camper Van or Motor Home. Also, nature camping doesn’t get much better than the world-famous Turquoise Bay only a couple of minutes down the road.

Local Knowledge

We looked to our local legends Scott and Emma from Exmouth Camper Hirefor their knowledge and tips on how to best enjoy this one-stop spot for the ultimate camping road trip.

Scott and Emma have lived in Exmouth for over 22 years.

They met in Exmouth, fell in love in Exmouth, then fell in love with Exmouth.

“Both working 9-5 jobs in town, myself at the supermarket and Scott driving cranes, we went out camping on the Ningaloo Coast every weekend,” Emma said.

Kiteboarding was Scott’s hobby so they were always on the hunt for new kiteboarding locations on some very remote beaches. Naturally, the camping interest was always there and with that, they decided to begin sharing this Ningaloo dream with others.

Sharing the Ningaloo Dream

As for how they began their journey Emma told us: “There came an opportunity in our town notice board to purchase a couple of assets, one hi-top camper van and one off-road camper trailer. Scott approached me to begin a small business as seemed suited to our lifestyle - I was a hard sell, to begin with, though agreed to give it a go.”

Exmouth Camper Hire was born in May 2006.

Back then flights into Exmouth were limited to Skywest airlines, only 2 days a week. During this time Scott and Emma continued to work their day jobs whilst also juggling their new business operating from their home.

Two years later, a breakthrough for them came when flight frequency increased and their small business began to expand with more hi-top camper vans and eventually their first brand new motorhome.

A year and one industrial block of land later, they had their own commercial location on one of Exmouth’s most popular streets central to town, their vision had come true.

Speaking of those early days Emma had to give praise to the community of Exmouth which is also another great reason to visit the region.

“As our small business slowly grew with the demand and over the years, Scott and I constantly worked hard in keeping an immaculately maintained product with 100% one-on-one service.”

“Our Community, family and friends have been very supportive over the years as the road has had the odd bump, plus we are operating a small business in a very remote North West town of 2000 people.”

A Camplify Adventure Begins

As for how they ended up partnering with Camplify, Emma told us: “In February 2020, at the Caravan and Camping Super Show while on a business trip, Scott and I met a few of the boys from Camplify.”

“We had a great chat about what they could offer us, being a medium-sized, well-established camper van and motor home hire company, as most of their customers are casual owners hiring out their personal gear. However, the chat we had gave us all the confidence we needed to come on board a few months later. Our little girl also loved their statue blue dog!”

“Exmouth Camper Hire has a wonderful website, though Camplify gives our small business the extra opportunity to showcase our product to a larger Australian audience, specifically shopping for recreation vehicle hire.”

“During COVID-19 with travel restricted to WA only, Camplify also helped us to begin promoting our RV business to a more local demographic which is working well.”

“Their customer service has been fantastic too.”

Must-See Locations

Campervan Living

Scott and Emma still try and enjoy this beautiful region as much as they can, when something in their fleet is available. We asked them what some of their favourite places to visit are when they are given the opportunity.

“We have had a lot of amazing experiences all along our Coral Coast. Loving the warmer climate, we always stick to destinations above the 26 parallel, including Cape Range National Park, Warroora Station, Karijini National Park and the Monkey Mia Dolphin reserve.”

The Best Thing About Seeing the Region in a Camper?

What a setup!

“Knowing we offer a very exclusive product and service, along with being a huge holiday investment for a customer to even get to Exmouth - We love sharing the freedom camping experience.”

“Imagine a slow-paced holiday in a comfortable self-contained and self-sufficient Hotel Room on Wheels, parked up on the beach with the Ningaloo Reef shoreline as your lullaby. So good!”

What Vans are on Offer?

Having lived and been in business in the region for over 14 years, Scott and Emma have learnt a lot from both their own experiences and listened to a lot of customers feedback.

These days, all of Exmouth Camper Hires campers and motorhomes are bought brand new. With the offering of 6 different types of standard and luxury recreational vehicles, there is something within their fleet to accommodate any holiday type and budget.

From a zippy camping van or Echidna pod camper trailer to the luxury of a 2 or 6 berth motor home, to an adventure in a 4x4 rooftop tent camper, they have all bases covered and include everything you’ll need to tick off all the places you’ll want to see.

All hires come with standard inclusions for 2-4 pax, making packing easy for the fly-in customers. They supply all linen, snorkelling sets, camp chairs, extra 40-litre esky, all cooking and eating utensils, beach umbrella, beach towels, extra outdoor cooker, outdoor table…the list is endless and they even include real wine glasses!

For the fully off-grid campers, their recreational vehicles have solar panels fixed to the roof!

“This allows camping amongst nature and all the best beaches without the crowds, while still keeping all mod cons fully charged - fridge, water pump, shower, toilet, lights, etc…” Emma explains.

“Lithium batteries also feature in nearly all of our RVs = natural energy for longer.”

Custom Built

Scott, owner of Exmouth Camper Hire is also not just a pretty face. He is the brainchild, builder, auto electrician, carpenter, and jack of all trades of conversions within their fleet.

His proud designs/conversions include the 4x4 rooftop tent campers and little camping vans. Scott's designs are exclusive and custom-tailored to suit the local environment they will be hired in.

Past hirers have noticed how well the conversion functions, along with the amount of attention to detail that features within each design.

“We have also worked with conversion companies in Perth to custom design our hi-top camper van and super hi-top camper vans. These configurations are also thoroughly planned and very practical.”
