Best natural swimming holes near Perth

Looking for the perfect spot to cool off after a walking trail? Here is our selection for the top swimming holes in the Perth and Peel region.

With the Western Australia Government relaxing the restrictions for camping from Friday 1st May for campgrounds within national parks, reserves and state forests now is the time to plan your trip to take in the splendour of the natural swimming pools within Perth’s own backyard.

With camping options ranging from tent set-ups through to campervans and caravans with all the inclusions and the ease of hiring, you can now venture out of your own home to ease the isolation and take in the breathtaking natural pools near Perth and all they have to offer by exploring Perth’s beautiful backyard without the setup costs of owning your own camping equipment.

Serpentine Falls

Located 55km from Perth and with sealed road access, Serpentine Falls is a great option for a day trip from Perth or for a camping trip in the National Park close by.

With ample facilities such as car parking, a picnic area, gas barbeques and toilets, the falls make a family outing nice and easy. They also have lots of activities such as bushwalking and swimming, and perhaps if you’re lucky a possible visit from the Western Grey Kangaroos.

Serpentine

Lane Poole Reserve, located just 100km from Perth and covering over 50,000 hectares is the largest park in the Northern Jarrah forest.

With its variety of activities available within the park, there is enough to keep everyone entertained for your next camping adventure. Not only are there lots of water activities such as swimming canoeing, rafting or even fishing but there is also plenty on offer for those not interested in the water.

Dry activities include bushwalking, mountain biking, horseriding and also four-wheel-driving, so you’ll be able to keep the entire family happy.

With so much to do you may want to stay an extra night, which you can do by booking a campsite through the Parks and Wildlife Service. These campsites come with plenty of facilities and most are even pet friendly (providing they are on a lead).

Rocky Pool

Rocky Pool located in Kalamunda National Park is popular with bushwalkers with the Bibbulmn Track known as a rewarding bush walk with spectacular views. Located 28km from Perth and with the option available for camping on Bibbulmn Track, experienced hikers will enjoy the challenge that the Bibbulmn track offers.

With campsites spaced apart and best suited to tent camping, Rocky Pool gives you the option for longer or shorter camping options. All campsites are furnished with a timber shelter, rainwater tank and pit toilets.

For a longer stay, set up your camper or van in one of the other sites in Kalamunda National Park and take a day trip through the walking track.

Lake Leschenaultia

While canoe hire and the playgrounds remain closed, camping and use of the lake and facilities are available for use now at Lake Leschenaultia. Located 50km from Perth with 168-hectare bushland and camping, swimming, cycling and barbecue facilities, the lake is perfect for families. The picnic area is equipped with a shady lawn area and sandy beaches. Take in the local birdlife including ducks, geese, herons and swamp hens and well as kangaroos, possums, and bandicoots which make the surrounding bush their homes.

The camping facilitates tents, camper trailers and other camping vehicles shorter than 6 metres. The camp kitchen is equipped with a fridge, freezer, microwave oven and water suitable for drinking.

Bicton Baths

Located 18km from Perth, Bicton Baths is a local wonder. Situated on the Swan River, the water is crystal clear and a beautiful place for a swim and picnic with the family.

One side of the beach area has a semi-enclosed jetty while the other side with the beach is perfect for swimming, a play on the sand, snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding.

North Dandalup Dam

North Dandalup Dam is located 150km south of Perth. While it supplies public drinking water for Perth, the dam also is available for recreational use with barbecue facilities, toilets and picnic tables.

While camping at the dam is not permitted, camping options are available in the bordering darling ranges offering campers the option for day trips to Perth’s natural pools while still being able to camp in the national parks within Perth.
