Adventure Dads: Meet The Birds

Camplify
The Bird family's campervan setup at a beaut bush campsite.

The Camplify community to chock-a-block full of awesome adventure Dads and with Father's Day sneaking up we thought it'd be a great opportunity to introduce you to some. We caught up with The Bird family, avid campers and owners of Adventure Shack to hear stories of family life on the road.

Who we are:

Hey all, we are the Birds! Luke, Dee, Anabel, Kobi, Tayla and Ashton from Brisbane.

Meet the Bird Family

Why did you join Camplify?

It was initially as a side hustle to be able to afford a better quality camper trailer for the family. Over time I actually took the big leap and made sharing campers and caravans a full time job. 7 years later, I’m still loving it.

What makes your caravan the perfect adventure van?

Being a family of 6 that loves a big trip we always struggled to find a van that would fit all the kids in their own bed and give mum and dad a comfortable bed. Our Supreme 4 bunk van gives us a lot of luxury features to allow us to spend months at a time on the road.

Adventures on the road

What makes your hubby the best travel hubby?

The best thing about my hubby when we are out on the road is that Luke knows his stuff. He knows what to do when something goes wrong and how to fix it quickly. He sets up camp so effortlessly and really makes us feel like we are in a home away from home. He is also always willing to go to new places and try new things and turns out travels into real adventures!

What's on the agenda for Father's day 2022?

Probably take the 4wd up to Bribie island and have a bbq on the beach with the family!

Beach time with the Family

What’s your favourite camping memory with your hubby?

My favourite camping memory with my hubby is our family trip to Cape York. Hours on the road listening to John Williamson and Slim Dusty, dealing with red dust everywhere! Seeing the most amazing locations, meeting some real outback characters and exploring new adventures together with our four kids. Being able to experience that trip with your best friend is something I will never forget.

Have you experienced any special Camplify moments as a family?

Taking a group of Camplify crew and some hirers out to the Big Red Bash in Birdsville! Getting to give some first timers an amazing outback experience

True Outback Experience

A word for the adventure dads out there?

Get out there and experience our awesome country. As a family we have shared some of our best times together on the road making memories the kids will never forget.

Our Top 3 Local Picks

1. Sandstone Point BIG4 This one is one of the best family parks we’ve been to. Awesome facilities, water slides, scooter parks, fire pits, restaurant and of course the bar for the parents! It's about a 15-minute drive to Bribie island if you're keen on some beach time. The Sandstone hotel is just next door which often has some great live entertainment and events to attend. If you're new to caravaning this place is a great introduction to the lifestyle.

Making family memories

2. Stradbroke Island We love to do a beach camp, and this is our favourite place. Depending on your skill level and vehicle there are several options for camping on the island. If you still want to have your powered site and beach views we recommend Cylinder beach site, it's right on the beach on the western side of the island, with all Bitumen roads to access. If you want full beachfront camping, off-grid and with a fire, then Flinders beach is our pick. It is sand access but it isn’t too hard. If you plan your run with the tides and set your tire pressures right, you can be waking up to the ocean view out your front door.

Beautiful Stradbroke Island

3. Thunderbird Park Located in the Tambourine area, the park itself has a heap of activities for the family. There is a range of tree top adventures, zip lines for all ages. Mini golf and Thunder egg mining. If you want to venture out of the park, there are many great bush walks, and waterfalls to check out. There’s also the township of Tamborine, with a heap of shops and restaurants to explore.
