Van Halen owner Skye shares some local knowledge of her favourite lesser-known spots in South Australia and why hitting the road in a van is the best way to explore them.

Skye has always had a huge love for travelling both locally and overseas and decided to create a home on wheels to be able to just head off whenever she wants. That's where her passion for vanlife really began.

“When we first built it, I also wanted to be able to bring my dogs away on my holidays and a Campervan seemed like the best way to make that dream a reality," Skye said.

Why Van Halen is anybody’s perfect travel companion.

“Many reasons, but I personally love that she has everything you need, she's comfortable aesthetically pleasing. The bed is amazing and is almost King size so it's incredibly comfy! She's also dog friendly so you can bring your best mate along for your holidays! I think her overall vibe is pretty darn cool too”

So what are Skye’s favourite hidden gems in South Australia...?

“We love all the free campsite around SA. Sometimes we pull up on a beachfront if it allows us to stay overnight. There's nothing better than Waking up the Ocean on your doorstep.”

So naturally, some of her favourite spots in the entire state are:

  • Pinks Beach RV Site (Free camping)

  • Robe

  • Sellicks Beach

  • Goolwa Fishermans wharf (there's a gin distillery called Moonlight Gin which is the yummiest gin in the world!)

  • Smiling Samoid Brewery

  • Wirraburra Forest (free camping)

  • Innes National Park
