Camplify
Rainforest campsite in Lamington National Park. Tents nestled amongst lush, green trees.

It’s true, here in Australia we have a National Park named after one of the nation's treasured sweet treats and although this park isn't dipped in chocolate and rolled in delicious coconut it’s still one of the sweetest spots in Queensland.

Lamington National Park landed itself a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list and the moment you step into the Gondwana Rainforest you will see why. Expect to see densely forested mountain ranges, spectacular waterfalls, and a huge selection of walking trails suitable for the season hikers and the little adventure folk among us.

This natural wonder is located around two hours drive from Brisbane and ninety minutes from the Gold Cost. You could spend days here hiking the trails, exploring the waterfalls, and visiting all the epic viewpoints, music to our ears here at Camplify HQ. read on as we explore deep into one of Australia's finest natural attractions.

The best waterfalls in Lamington National Park

Morans is a must-see

Despite what TLC says, Chasing waterfalls should be your number one priority here in Lamington National Park. Once you have your home on wheels and you are packed up ready to go, punch O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat into your GPS and you will be on the right track. Park your van in the large car park, grab a snack, and be sure to keep an eye out for the array of colourful birds on the route, they are spectacular to see.

The fairest of them all – Elabana Falls.

Elabana Falls

Elabana Falls is the first and easiest waterfall you will find. Just a short 1.5-hour hike will lead you to the base of this beautiful waterfall. You might have to do a little research into which route to take and that all depends on your time limits and hiking ability. Be prepared for some adventurous rock scrambling up to the base but we promise it’s worth it. Head here late afternoon for some beautiful golden rays, perfect for photographers.

Picture perfect Chalahn Falls

Top tip for waterfall hunters here in the National park. It is best to visit after a spot of rain, the falls come alive after rainfall and you will see the rainforest in all its natural glory. From Gwongurai falls, take a short twenty-minute hike up the creek track and here you will find one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the park. Don’t forget your tripods for some long exposure goodness.

Toolona Falls – the hiking circuit

Hiking this circuit reveals all the waterfall goodness you could need. Endless falls, rainforest delights, and swimming spots, what a treat. The Toolona creek track will see you hopping through the creek over five times winding down and around 7 small waterfalls and more. Expect to spend the day exploring here and marveling at the classic plunge falls. Toolana is a permanent waterfall and the best time of year to visit is between January and March.

Hiking in Lamington National Park

Theres so much more to GC than just the coast

In stark contrast to golden beaches and turquoise waters, Lamington National Park is home to a lush sub-tropical wonderland filled to the brim with adventure. With an abundance of trails to choose from suitable for everyone, don’t forget to pack your hiking boots ready to explore. The trails are split over two areas, the Binna Burra section, and the Green mountain section.

Binna Burra trails are typically around 16km long but you will find some shorter trails too.

Start on the Daves Creek Circuit

This 12km loop will take around three to four hours to complete, be ready for some fantastic viewpoints on the route. Wind your way through dense rainforest, on the rise through the eucalypt woodland before reaching the Numinbah Valley view. Tap on the Surprise Reach viewpoint, the views are stunning.

This is a full-day walk so pack accordingly and don’t forget your camera, for wonderful views and epic falls.

If you are new to the hiking scene or have a herd of small adventure folk on board then head over to the Green mountains section for more family-friendly hikes.

Morans Falls Lookout

Take care at this lookout

A short 4.4km return track will lead you to the Morans Fall lookout. Add to the adventure and hike across the creek. You can scramble towards the edge of the falls (with extra care) to the Morans clearing lookout for clear views across the Hinterlands.
