5 places to visit in NSW this Easter

1. Family adventures in Northern Rivers

Walk up to Cape Byron Lighthouse for some unbeatable views of the coast.

On the northeastern coast of NSW is the expansive Northern Rivers region, home to flourishing rainforests and idyllic beach towns like Byron Bay.

Take the little ones to Macadamia Castle, an animal park with a cafe and mini-golf course. Enjoy a walk at Cape Byron Lighthouse where dolphins and whales glide past with regularity. Hop around the boho town of Byron Bay where you’ll find live music, farmer’s markets, and cool cafes. You can also spend the day in Bundjalung National Park where you can explore lagoons, go canoeing and try out mountain biking.

Wake up on Easter morning next to Ten Mile Beach at Black Rocks campground in the National Park or head further south and book a stay at the Woody Head campground, suitable for all vehicles. Bush camping at Wooyung Beach Holiday Park features basic amenities, fire pits, and a minutes walk to the beach.

2. The 26 beaches of Port Stephens

Explore the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes.

For those families wanting to unwind on their long Easter holiday, Port Stephens is your place. Spend your days at the beach and feast on delicious fresh fish all weekend long. Snorkel in underwater gardens and rock pools in turquoise water. Surprise your family with a whale-watching cruise or a surf lesson. Head to Worimi Conservation Lands to have a play on the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes, stunning at sunrise or sunset. Expect an adventure-filled holiday here in Port Stephens.

Camping options are plentiful around the Port Stephens region. If your little ones want to search for eggs Easter morning, check out one of the bigger holiday parks like BIG4 Karuah Jetty, Halifax, and Koala Shores. For a more remote experience in a 4WD, sleep next to the sea at Samurai Beach campground or along the riverside at Myall River Camp.

3. Visit NSW's most picturesque mountains

Take the Scenic Cableway for a bird's eye view of Jamison Valley.

While the coast is incredible for many reasons, why not take your family on a trip to Blue Mountains National Park this Easter holiday. Not only is it a World-Heritage site, but it is also a massive nature playground with waterfalls, hiking tracks, lookouts, mountain bike trails, and even a scenic cableway for a bird's eye view.

Broken down to six regions, it’s easy to spend days exploring this vast park. Don’t miss the famous Three Sisters rock formation in the Katoomba area seen from the Echo Point lookout and for a beginner walk, check out Wentworth Falls.

You're spoiled for choice with over 10 campgrounds dotted throughout the park, including a mix of campervan and caravan spots. Those with wheels can check out Burralow Creek, Dunphys, and Government Town which all include basic amenities like toilets and barbecues. Be sure to book your site beforehand and bring enough water for your stay.

4. See the best of the South Coast in Jervis Bay

Visit the sparkling waters of Hyams Beach

A road trip around NSW can’t be called complete without a visit to the stunning Jervis Bay region. With kilometres of untouched bushland, white sand beaches, and calm turquoise waters, Jervis has something for every kind of family on an Easter trip.

Take the kids to Jervis Bay Marine Park where you can gaze on the bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, penguins and sea dragons, before continuing on to the Indigenous owned Booderee Botanic Gardens. Here you can spend hours wandering the serpentine walking trails while the kids learn about the diversity around them.

Visit Hyams Beach for a touch of the Caribbean, before heading to Cave Beach, where friendly kangaroos wander the National Park and won’t be afraid to say g’day! Jervis abounds in campsites and holiday parks, with beachside campsites at Green Patch, Bristol Point & Cave Beach, while Jervis Bay Holiday Park and Holiday Haven White Sands are our pick of the holiday parks.

5. Soak up the retro vibes in Crescent Head

There's so much to see and do in Crescent Head

For something slightly off the beaten track, with a refreshing laid-back vibe to truly make the most of the Easter break, head to the chilled out town of Crescent Head on NSW’s Mid North Coast. Revered for decades as a legendary surfing hotspot, this charming town has plenty for the whole family to see and do.

If the surfing bug is strong in your family, you won’t want to waste any time jumping in the water at Killick Beach. If you’re looking for lessons, there are several surf schools in town that will be happy to show you the ropes. If you’re not into the waves, Killick Beach is still a fantastic spot to take a picnic and watch the action from the shore.

In terms of camping, Crescent Head Holiday Park is your go to modern campsite loaded with amenities and activities, while Waves Campground will provide a more rustic setting with plenty of amenities, and Racecourse Campground is a no-nonsense spot tucked in the bush right on the water's edge.
