Nambung National Park WA: Perth couple adventure guide

Emily and Max
Troopy Bushcamper at the Pinnacles, Nambung National Park. WA coastal road trip with camping!

Hi, we are Emily and Max a couple from Perth, Western Australia, with a passion for travelling, adventure and photography. We love exploring new places and documenting our trips through photography, especially overseas; however, with international travel off the cards we’ve been exploring closer to home. We realised we have never travelled north of Perth and especially around Cervantes and Jurien Bay. Thanks to Camplify we could escape the city life for a weekend getaway in the comfort of a fully self-sufficient Bushcamper Troopy.

Exploring our backyard

There has never been a better time to explore our state than now. Western Australia is so widespread with such diverse offering including some of the world's most pristine beaches, incredible mountain ranges, unique wildlife, and impressive landscapes. We have a great appreciation for Western Australia, especially after travelling around the world. Not only for its natural beauty but also because some parts are relatively untouched and unspoiled, giving it an even greater attraction in our eyes.

Cervantes and Jurien Bay

For our weekend getaway, we headed a few hours north to the small town of Cervantes and Jurien Bay. On our first night, we stayed at the RAC Cervantes campsite located a short walking distance from the beach. What we loved about this campsite was not only the size but their immaculate facilities. The main kitchen has open sliding doors to allow natural light and overlooks the pool and bbq area. Inside there are several kitchen benches, gas cookers, microwaves, tables and chairs. Big enough for the majority of the caravan park to cook in. The showers and laundry also were super clean and large. The reception has a small cafe attached, perfect for those seeking a cafe-style coffee.

Sandy Cape

The second night we took full advantage of the self-contained Troopy and drove north of Jurien Bay to Sandy Cape. At Sandy Cape, the campsites are located in the sand dunes right on the water. There are no powered sites, but there is a communal area where you can cook and eat. There are also facilities such as flushing toilets, Gas barbecues, picnic areas, public kitchens and bins.

Trip highlights

1. The Pinnacles - Nambung National Park One of the main reasons why we wanted to visit Cervantes was to see the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park. The rock formations are so unique and are all different shapes and sizes. The Pinnacles are impressive natural limestone structures, formed approximately 25,000 to 30,000 years ago after the sea receded and left seashells' deposits. Over time, coastal winds removed the surrounding sand, leaving the pillars exposed to the elements.

The park has a shop and cafe open from 8-4 where you can buy souvenirs or grab a coffee. Access to the park is open 24hrs, and we found the best time to visit was for sunrise or sunset when you get beautiful golden light illuminating the sides of the rock formations.

2. Hangover Bay

Some other awesome things to do are take the 4wd to Hangover Bay and set up on the beach. Check out the famous Lobster Shack for the best locally caught seafood.

We really wanted to camp next to the beach, that's why we spent a night at Sandy Cape. We slept under the stars and woke up in the morning to the sound of the waves crashing. We had a quick swim at the beach then cooked breakfast back at the car.

The Camplify Experience

We love the Camplify concept and the fact that you can hire unique vehicles customised to suit people's tastes and needs. The hiring process was very easy, straightforward and not complicated whatsoever. The owners of the Bushcamper Troopy, Hans and Gab were so lovely to work with and extremely helpful. They attended to all our questions before the trip and were easy to contact when we were on the road just if we needed help with something.

What we loved the most about hiring the Troopy through Camplify is that it came with everything we needed for our road trip, including bedding, tables, chairs and cutlery. The Bushcamper Troopy had a pop-up roof, a slide-out kitchen with two gas cookers, a sink, fridge and it had the perfect outdoor kitchen.

We can't wait for the next road trip adventure with Camplify :)
