Safety and Policies: Safety guidelines for Owners

McLaren Vale and the southern Fleurieu Peninsula - short breaks close to adelaide

Your hirer's safety is your top priority. A safe van and a well-prepared hirer reduce the risk of incidents and ensure everyone has a great experience.

Pre-hire safety checks

Before every hire:

  • Check tyre pressure and tread depth (including spare)

  • Test all lights (indicators, brake, tail, reversing)

  • Ensure the gas system is leak-free, and connections are tight

  • Check the fire extinguisher is current and accessible

  • Test the smoke alarm and gas detector

  • Verify the first aid kit is stocked

  • Check the RCD (safety switch) on the 240V system

  • Ensure the tow hitch, safety chains, and breakaway cable (if applicable) are in good condition

Annual maintenance

Regular servicing is essential. Have your van professionally serviced at least annually, including wheel bearings, brakes, suspension, gas system, and electrical systems.

Safety information for hirers

At the handover, make sure your hirer knows:

  • Where the fire extinguisher and first aid kit are

  • How to shut off the gas in an emergency

  • What to do in case of a breakdown (call you, then roadside assistance)

  • Emergency contact numbers

  • Basic towing safety (if applicable) — safe speeds, reversing tips, checking the hitch
