Cosy Campers conversion: luxury labour of love story

A campervan conversion that’s a labour of love...

Cosy Campers is the brainchild of Mariangela and Mike Virtue: a Brisbane-based husband and wife team with a passion for travel, adventure, nature and music.

Mariangela and Mike both grew up near Byron Bay, so the coastal areas of Northern NSW and South East Queensland are very close to their hearts. When they moved to Brisbane to raise a family and work in the design industry, they still wanted to travel back to their home region frequently, as well as seek out new adventures in that amazing part of the world.

They are modern travellers, who relish the freedom of getting close to nature and seeing places that only the locals get to. But they also love life’s luxuries, personal touches and a natural aesthetic. So, how did Cosy Campers start?

"We started looking for a campervan we could take to a different place every weekend. But all we could find were grubby backpacker buses and sterile, mass-produced mega-vans with as much atmosphere as sleeping in the back seat of your car", said Mariangela.

They saw a clear gap in the market: a campervan conversion with style and soul. So they built their own. With Mike working in interior furnishings and Mariangela running a creative agency, it was only natural that they paid close attention to every aspect of design and comfort.

From its hand-crafted timber interior to designer touches like a Bose sound system and luxury fabrics and linens, they’ve combined their professional interests in design and interior furnishings to set the bar higher for a campervan experience. Their journey is documented on Instagram – from the very first test drive of the Mercedez-Benz campervan, down to each furnishing option. You can also follow their story on Facebook.

"We designed our campervan conversion to be natural and organic, with solar panels, reclaimed timber details and a breezy Southern Californian vibe. But we also appreciate creature comforts, so we kitted it out with a comfy bed, high-end linen, a quality sound system and plenty of insect protection. It’s a cosy and luxurious home away from home that we can take anywhere the wind blows us", said Mariangela.

All of their decisions have been meticulously planned -- just like their choice to share their creation via the Airbnb of campervans, Camplify. You can view and book the Cosy Campers van for hire on Camplify here.

“Camplify offers a user-friendly platform that hirers trust while providing added online exposure for our van. The Camplify team has also supported us with helpful advice along the way", Mariangela said.

What does the future hold for Cosy Campers?

“Our dream is to build a fleet of vans that allows locals and tourists alike to explore South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales in a unique way. But like every adventure, we’re just taking it one at a time!”, Mariangela said.
