Hey, don’t get us wrong, summer’s great. But the month of April is quite possibly the most underrated time to hop in a Camplify van and tour around Australia. With an abundance of public and school holidays, dispersing crowds and easing temperatures, April is the perfect time to hit the road with Camplify.

Camplify is Australia’s largest and fastest growing van sharing community, connecting travellers with local campervan, caravan and motorhome owners to help create unique adventures. Search for vans in your area and start planning your epic April getaway.

April is the month of time off

There’s no better reason to book an April road trip than the simple fact that you don’t need to take too much time off work to get the most out of the public holidays throughout the month. We’ll break it down for each state, but if you’re looking for a comprehensive guide on how to utilise your annual leave, well we’ve got that for you too.

  • Easter: Kickstart the month the right way, with Easter falling over 29th March - 1st April for all states. It might be one of our busiest times of the year, but we’ve still got thousands of vans available, with 10 of our favourites listed here.

  • Anzac Day: Our other April public holiday on the 25th falls on a Thursday this year for every state, another perfect opportunity to take a cheeky long weekend before winter.

  • School holidays: Did someone say a 2 week family holiday in a van? It might have been us. Here’s the breakdown for the 2024 Autumn school holidays in each state:

  • NSW, SA, ACT: April 13 - 28

  • VIC, QLD, WA: March 29 - April 14

  • TAS: April 12 - 28

  • NT: April 6 - 14

Less crowds, less worries

Often referred to as a ‘shoulder month’ or ‘the off-season’, we think April has been unfairly branded as a less desirable month for outdoor travel. In any case, international and domestic travel hits a lull in April, meaning you can catch an almost empty Freycinet National Park, stretch out on the still-warm sands of secluded Esperance beaches, and finally get a pic of the Kiama blowhole without pesky tourists standing in your way.

April weather shines through

Once the blazing summer sun has passed, April offers the perfect time to explore more parts of Australia. With the outback much more palatable with cooler daytime temps, the rainy season coming to an end in the north, and the water temperature still hovering around the early 20’s in most parts, you’ll be able to travel in any direction that takes your fancy.

April travel ideas

  • Great Barrier Reef: With the rainy season dwindling in North Queensland, April is the perfect time to tick this off the bucket list and plan a road trip up to the tropics. The more predictable weather around places like Cairns mean you can plan a trip out to the reef without the worry of weather derailing plans.

  • The Red Centre: While a road trip to the Northern Territory in the middle of summer can be a daunting proposition, April offers cooler daytime temps (24-32 degrees celsius). Grab a van and seek out the majestic Uluru , the utterly unique Kakadu National Park , and kick back on the beaches of Darwin.

  • The West Coast: Another part of Australia that sees temperatures soaring in summer, Western Australia is the perfect place to have an unforgettable Camplify holiday in April. With the water often staying around 22 degrees, take a van along the coast and find hundreds of secluded, beautiful beaches.
