Adventure dads: meet the Hutchinsons Gold Coast family

Alex Hutchinson
Hutchinson family's campervan parked up at a beaut Gold Coast beachside campsite.

With Father's Day just around the corner, we wanted to give a shout-out to the awesome dads in our community. We caught up with Gold Coast family, the Hutchinsons, to hear about their family adventures in their van, Life on the Open Road.

Who we are:

Hi guys, we are Alex, Ryan and Ziggy Hutchinson and we live on the sunny Gold Coast!

Why did you join Camplify?

We joined Camplify as we found after our trip around Australia there were periods when the van wasn't getting used to we wanted to share it with other families so they could get a taste of the camp life too.

“We highly recommend using Camplify, such a great way to have a family holiday or to make extra income!”

What makes your caravan the perfect adventure van?

We love our van because although we have all the luxuries it has still been able to take us to some amazing, remote places around Australia like Shark Bay and Red Bluff in WA with ease. Being semi-off-road gives us the best of both worlds.

On their way to their next adventure!

What makes your hubby the best travel buddy?

Where do I start... I am lucky I have a best friend for a husband. We have been in business together for over 8 years so are used to spending loads of time together so the transition to life on the road was easy for us He is not only very handy and organized, he is super funny and an awesome dad so we have loads of fun adventures together.

How are you celebrating Father's day this year?

It usually depends on the weather but I would say we will spend the day out on our boat with a picnic and a few beers. Whatever he wants to do.

What's your favourite camping memory with your hubby?

I'd have to say our time at Warroora Station near Coral Bay camping on the beach for a week, we had so many great times there, we would take our little tinny out at Ziggy's sleep time and he would fall asleep for a couple of hours and we could have a good fish together in peace

It's life's simple moments

Have you experienced any special Camplify moments as a family?

We have definitely met some really cool families through Camplify and nothing makes us happier than seeing the excitement on their faces when they arrive for their holiday.

Our Top 3 Local Picks (within an hour of Gold Coast):

  1. Hosanna Farm Stay, just on the border of NSW and QLD. The hosts are so friendly, there is a working farm with baby animals, a gorgeous river runs through the property, and on Saturday night there is live music and a pizza van .. so good for kids!

  2. Hasting Point North Star Holiday Resort. It has the coolest waterslides and play areas for the kids and a small walk to the creek and beach.

  3. Tallebudgera Creek Park. Although it is only 10 mins away from us it is such a gorgeous spot, great creek, easy walking to the beach and to Burleigh and they have awesome events on over the school holidays and weekends for kids. Definitely a fave.

All set up for the weekend ahead.

A word for the adventure dads out there?

Live your best life and take in every moment. Travelling with kids can be hard sometimes but the memories you make will be lifelong and so worth it. All my great memories growing up were definitely on camp trips and holidays with my family.
