Located right on the border of QLD and NSW and less than an hour’s drive from the Gold Coast, Natural Bridge Retreat is a spectacular campground on the edge of Lamington National Park. Take a dip in the natural waterfall that’s been used in some of Australia’s most iconic advertisements, paddle down the creek that runs through the 135-acre property or hike through the rainforest to the mountain tops for ocean views.

2. Hold It Flats Campground

Just an hour from Mackay is Hold It Flats, a 120-acre property that offers beautiful camping sites on the edge of the O'Connell River. Take a walk around the property to check out some of the unique statues built out of scrap metal and stop at one of the bush bars for a drink. Bring your bikes and take a ride around the tracks, kayak up and down the river or plunge into the swimming hole.

3. Sarabah Camping

Drive 45 minutes from the Gold Coast and an hour from Brisbane and you’ll find Sarabah Camping. This QLD campground offers a 300-acre slice of serenity away from the big cities.

It is a working cattle farm that sits alongside the Canungra Creek in the foothills of Lamington National Park and one of the best campgrounds in QLD for self-contained campers, with only 6 private camping sites available for exclusive use. Access is possible in 2WD in fine weather but 4WD will be needed in wet weather.

4. Stonesthrow Bush Camping

Stonesthrow Bush Camping sits alongside the beautiful Coomera Creek.

Stonesthrow Bush Camping is located 40 minutes’ drive from the Gold Coast on a 51-acre property.
