Located 25 kilometres from the racetrack, it’s an easy drive to the action from Blacksmiths. Blacksmiths is also accessible by bus. Just check Transport NSW for relevant information about fares, schedules, and potential delays and closures.

If you’re looking for somewhere free to park your RV and to set up camp, Watagan Headquarters is worth the extra distance. Located within Heaton State Forest, the campsite is free to use, but works on a first come first served basis. Being free of charge, the campsite is quite bare, so it is best suited for RVs equipped with washroom and cooking amenities.

Watagan Headquarters is only recommended to those who are travelling by car or RV, as the campground cannot be accessed via public transportation. The racetrack is located about 60 kilometres east of Watagan Headquarters, so expect to drive an hour to/from the event.

  1. Swansea Sea Breeze

Swansea Sea Breeze is a privately-owned lot, but available to the public for a fee ($40 per night for a couple on an unpowered site). Power is available at an additional cost. If you’re a self-contained traveller (have your own washroom and kitchen amenities), choosing a campsite here could be the perfect home away from home for the Newcastle 500.

About 30 kilometres south of Newcastle, expect to drive 40 minutes to the racetrack from Swansea Sea Breeze.   1. Freemans Campground

Located within the Munmorah State Conservation Area, the Freemans Campground is the larger of the two available campsites. Freemans is suitable for tents, caravans, and motorhomes, as the facility offers flushing toilets, cold showers, drinking water, picnic tables, and barbeques. Freemans Campground is an hour drive from the racetrack. Although accessible by public transportation, it is not recommended due to the long journey. Freemans is located within the Munmorah State Conservation Area.

The smaller of the two campgrounds located in the Munmorah State Conservation Area, Frazer Campground is a great choice for those looking to be near the beach. The on-site amenities are the same as at Freemans: flushing toilets, cold showers, drinking water, picnic tables, and barbeques. Reservations are also required, but spots fill up quickly as there are less sites here than at Freemans. Please inquire online or by phone to confirm availability.

A good choice for families, Swansea Gardens is located in close proximity to the city of Swansea, so you’re never far from the beach, restaurants, and shopping facilities. Swansea Gardens is located about 30 kilometres south of Newcastle in the city of Swansea. Expect to drive 45 minutes to get to the racetrack. If you’d prefer public transportation, it is possible via bus. Just be sure to check Transport NSW for fares, schedules, and possible delays.

Arcadia Camping Ground is the perfect getaway, if you’re looking to escape from the hustle and bustle. Situated on a private lot in quaint Martinsville, Arcadia has flushing toilets, drinking water, and a shared camp kitchen with barbeque facilities. Just be aware that there is no power and no showers, so you’ll need to bring your own shower bag.

Paradise Palms is only 30 kilometres from the racetrack, so expect to drive for about 40 minutes each way. It is possible to use public transportation from Paradise Palms, but the number of transfers needed to complete the trip makes it a less than ideal option.

Situated 40 kilometres southwest of Newcastle in Wangi Wangi, the distance between the campsite and the track is about a 50 minute drive. Public transportation is not ideal if you plan on setting up camp here, due to the number of transfers and the duration of the journey.
