He is fitted with a duel battery system so all appliances run off 12V, which is charged by Solar Panels.

Wallace is stocked with basic camping supplies, including camp chairs, table, towels, bedding, cooking utensils, 12v cooker, Butane gas cooker, basic pantry supplies etc.

He is ready to take you on your journey from Launceston through to the north west. The east coast touring route including Bay of Fires, St Helens and Swansea, all the way through to our capital city Hobart to check out Mona and the Salamanca Markets. Or even an adventure through the windy roads of the West Coast.

Our vans are fully insured using Camplifys add on insurance (25 years and over) which is paid for by us!

Wallace is a very special van to us as he was fully restored by us and we also got engaged while on our first camping trip in him :)
We can't wait to share him with you!!!!
(Feel free to check out Kombi Hire Tasmania on Facebook or Instagram to check out our other Kombis and restorations)

Although Wallace has been restored he is still a vintage vehicle and some parts remain standard. He won’t cruise along the highway like your Ford Ranger or be as fuel efficient as your Toyota Prius. The idea with vintage cars is that they are a memorable experience to drive and a “blast from the past”. We have done our best to make bring him into the modern day and he regularly passes roadworthys but please keep in mind he is originally a 48 year old car.

Hiring Rules

Max 150km per day

As Kombis are air cooled and do not have a radiator it is imperiative that the oil temperature gauge does not exceed 120 degrees

Tasmanian roads are subject to wildlife from dusk to dawn so it is recommended not to drive after dusk to ensure no damage is done to the vehicle from wildlife or vide versa (also there’s nothing better than sitting in a Kombi and watching the sunset so pull over for the night as it gets dark)

Kombis are made for cruising so we recommend you stick to about 90kms on the highways of Tasmania

Fuel must be filled on return

We do not charge a cleaning fee so we would expect van to be in a neat presentable manner when returned

We are quite flexible with pick up and drop off times but please make arrangements with us if you would like to pick up before 3pm and drop off after 11am (this May not be viable around peak periods)

Hirer must be 21 years of age or older

Pets

  • No, hirers can't bring pets

Linen

  • Yes, linen is included

Wallace was amazing, as was Zoe (Wallace's Mum)! Beautifully restored, loaded with absolutely everything we needed and mechanically sound. Wallace was also quite cheap to run and a real head turner. Thank you Zoe & Wallace - we had the absolute best time.

Zoe's love for these vintage cars really rubbed off on us and we are hooked, it was the perfect way to explore Tassie. Wallace was the perfect long-weekend getaway wheels to celebrate our wedding anniversary in one of our favourite parts of the world! We are very grateful to take Wallace on his maiden hire voyage as a self-drive camper! Zoe and Jamon have decked him out so nicely with everything you could need for a beautiful adventure, and we had so much fun cruising Tassie in such an icon! We would recommend Kombi Hire Tasmania for anyone looking for something a little different and totally memorable. Thanks guys, we had a blast!

My partner and I began our love of Kombis in 2014 where we bought a decent shell and did some minor maintenance to get it registered. We had some great trips in that van! We acquired a couple more vans and also parted ways with a couple. We saved up and bought ourselves a rusty shell of a 1967 Split Screen over 3 years we restored it and the joy was overwhelming! We bought a few more Kombis when we saw them pop up around Tasmania and started to restore them. We currently have 8 Kombis and are working on restoring each of them to their former glory (in our spare time- which isnt a lot with 2 kids!) In June 2018 we decided we would love to share our Kombi dream with others. Our aim with hiring our vans is to meet like minding people who enjoy vintage cars, to let others share our passion and get a throw back to the 70s :) In the future we would love to take our kids on a Kombi road trip around Australia but for now we enjoy taking them around Tasmania on the weekends.
