Best destinations to visit once you’ve sorted your caravan hire in Port Stephens
Fingal Bay
Describing the beauty of Fingal Bay with words is not an easy feat. The postcard-perfect C-shaped beach is a fantastic surfing spot and the ideal location to spend time with your motorhome hire in Port Stephens. But what draws most visitors here, apart from the powdery sand, turquoise waters, and iconic coastline views, is the tiny island that lies a few metres across the beach.
Every day, a stretch of white sand emerges from the turquoise waters at low tide, allowing curious travellers to cross and explore this natural wonder. Once on the island, the walk to the lighthouse is really worth it!
Tomaree Head
If you love scenic ocean views, the Tomaree Head Summit Walk will delight you. While steep and a little bit challenging, this short walk will lead you to the most rewarding view. Perched 161 metres above sea level, you’ll be able to enjoy sweeping views across the coast. Once on top, soak in the view over the gorgeous Zenith Beach and Fingal Bay to the south and Yacaaba Head and Broughton Island to the north.
Worimi National Park
Managed by the Worimi Peoples, traditional land owners, the 4200-hectare Worimi Conservation Lands brims with natural wonders. The sacred place is home to the southern hemisphere’s largest moving dunes making for the perfect ground for quad biking, sandboarding, and horse riding. The gorgeous Birubi Beach and Stockton Beach also welcome one of the most popular activities in the area; camel riding.
There’s really something magical about riding a camel among tall shifting sand dunes metres away from the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean.
The parking is only metres away from the beach, and the dunes, allowing people travelling with a caravan hire in Port Stephens to enjoy the view from the comfort of their spacious vehicle.
Tilligerry Habitat
Created in 1993, the Tilligerry Habitat Association has done an incredible job at protecting koalas over the last three decades.
Tilligerry Habitat is a 9-ha flora and fauna reserve designed to provide local koalas with food and shelter. Visiting the reserve is free, and during your time there, you’ll be able to spot the iconic animal feeding and sleeping in eucalyptus trees. What’s more, the reserve is also home to over 100 species of native birds and some splendid flowers, including orchids.
Irukandji Sharks and Rays Encounters
Talking about rehabilitation and animal protection, the Irukandji Shelter is another fantastic destination for animal lovers. Its fantastic staff works tirelessly to protect and nurse back to life injured sea creatures until they’re ready to be released into their natural habitat once again. Some of the activities visitors can enjoy include petting rays, feeding sea turtles, and snorkelling with zebra sharks.
