You might hate the inflated prices. You might hate the crowds. You might hate the hoards of tourists ruining your authentic travel experience. You also might want to stop following the pack by choosing to not travel in the busy seasons and learn to capitalise on peak-periods. Check out how in our top reasons why you should travel in off-peak season!

1. It’s cheaper to travel in off-peak season!

Flights, camping spots, van hire, car hire - EVERYTHING is cheaper when it’s off-peak season. This is the main reason people decide to go against the grain. Yes, sometimes it might be colder, rainier, and quieter (some people may not want this) But if you are an avid budgetter, it makes sense to travel in the low season. Low season or off-peak season is generally not around school holidays, public holidays and summer holidays.

Best times to grab cheap rates:

  • During winter
  • Just after the summer school holidays
  • Between the end of October Long Weekend and the beginning of the summer school holidays

2. Fewer Crowds at Tourist Sites

Remember enjoying the huge crowd of people at the scenic lookout during your travels? Nope. Nobody enjoys clambering through the crowd the get that photo of the picturesque view that everyone else also wants to get!

Sometimes you might just start thinking, “Is it worth checking out that place? The tourists will be everywhere.” Another fantastic reason to travel in low-season is no crowds and minimal tourists! There will still be some at the major attractions, but it won’t be nearly as busy! You will be able to enjoy your time and take more than one crappy photo over someone’s head.

3. You’re more likely to meet more locals and have an authentic experience!

Makes sense, right? Less tourists means more of the locals will come out of hiding and therefore you will have the opportunity to enjoy a place as it’s meant to look. (aka without tourists everywhere) Let’s not forget though, you are still a tourist (but a smart tourist because you travel in off-peak season) so you have to make sure you follow the norms of the location you are travelling in.

As it is low-season, many smaller towns will have communities where everyone knows everyone and you will stick out like a sore thumb! Don’t be intimidated, head down to the local pub and chat with them! You never know what you might learn.

4. You can spend longer in each place

Due to the lower cost of camping spots and caravan parks, you can afford to stay longer! This will allow you to experience a place in depth rather than spending only a few nights at several locations. You’ll have time to learn about the history and culture of the place. The relief you will feel if you’re not needing to not rush to see everything will make your experience all the more enjoyable!

5. You can make a lot of money in peak-season with Camplify!

If you own your own campervan, motorhome, caravan or camper trailer, you can have other people, who do not own these, hire them out!

Come home from your travels in peak-periods and watch the income come flowing in! With Camplify you have complete control over who hires out your RV. It is mostly families that are looking for RVs over the busy periods. These are families that want to experience camping with the kids but don’t want to spend the money on their own RV.

  • Camper Trailer: Up to $80 per night
  • Campervan: Up to $120 per night
  • Caravan: Up to $150 per night or more!
  • Motorhome: Up to $200 per night or more!
